Saruna’s Story

Saruna’s Story

I was addicted to heroin for many years. At the age of twenty-five, I moved to Birmingham in search of a better life. I thought I could fix everything myself but didn’t realise that it was me who needed to change, not the place where I lived.

Having withdrawal effects from heroin, I tried smoking weed, hoping it will help me feel better. But I quickly slipped back into drug use and hit rock bottom a year later. This time, methadone and cocaine were added to my drug list.

For the next five years, all I could think about was taking drugs.
I realised that I was going to die if nothing were to change.

I started looking for help. An old friend recommended the drug and alcohol addiction Recovery Programme “Exodus” and with their help, I have been free from drugs for two years.

My life has changed radically and continues to change, I am happy, I enjoy life. I continue to volunteer with Exodus Recovery and help others who find themselves in a situation I was once in.

If you are struggling with addiction, don’t lose hope! Only God can lead us out of the dead-end we happened to be in.

Sarunas went through a successful recovery in London, England.
